Is Guest Blogging Still a Valid SEO Tactic?

blog-1-1165446-mWith all of the recent search engine algorithm changes, several of the formerly “tried and true” SEO tactics, such as guest blogging and blog commenting, are increasingly called into question. Google’s more recent algorithms, Panda and Penguin, especially targeted these methods, which have been manipulated often by more unscrupulous SEO professionals. Guest blogging in particular took a hit, as more and more black-hats used it as a way to pay for links while not contributing quality content. The result was blogs cluttered with inane content and stuffed full of links. However, as Google’s own Matt Cutts recently stated, guest blogging, when done correctly, can still be a useful SEO tool for raising brand visibility, earning real links, and contributing to the brand’s thought leadership. • Don’t stuff your blog full of keywords or use anchor text too heavily. If it reads like garbage, it probably is garbage.
  • Focus on the quality of the post If the information is relevant and original, the writing is solid and clear, and the post is relevant to both the author’s area of the expertise and the blogs theme, then it is a good fit.
  • Don’t go back to the well too often – if you guest blog too often in a short period of time, it will look suspicious to search engines.
